Do Not Worry—Trust in God’s Provision

Luke 12:22

Scripture: “Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear.’” - Luke 12:22

Introduction

Worry is something that affects us all. We worry about our finances, health, future, and daily needs. But in this passage, Jesus gives us a command: Do not worry. This is not a suggestion but a call to trust in God’s provision. Instead of being consumed by anxiety, we are called to live in faith, knowing that our Heavenly Father cares for us.

1. Worry is Unnecessary Because God Provides

Jesus tells His disciples not to worry about food or clothing. Why? Because the same God who created us knows exactly what we need. Just as He feeds the birds and clothes the flowers in beauty, He will take care of us. Worry does not add anything to our lives—it only drains us.

2. Worry is Unproductive

In verse 25, Jesus asks, “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” Worry does not change our situation. It does not provide solutions. Instead, it steals our joy and peace. Jesus calls us to focus on what truly matters—seeking God and trusting Him with our needs.

3. Seek First the Kingdom of God

Jesus later tells us in Luke 12:31, “But seek His kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.” When we prioritize God’s kingdom—living in obedience, loving others, and trusting Him—He promises to take care of our needs. Our focus should not be on accumulating wealth but on growing in our relationship with Him.

Conclusion: Faith Over Fear

Jesus is inviting us to replace worry with faith. Instead of being consumed by anxiety, we should trust in God’s goodness. When we remember that He is our Provider, our hearts will be filled with peace rather than fear.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that we do not need to worry because You are our provider. Help us to trust in Your care and to seek Your kingdom above all else. Fill our hearts with peace and faith, knowing that You are always with us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
