How Great Is Our God

Psalm 145:3

Key Scripture: Psalm 145:3 (NIV)

“Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise, his greatness no one can fathom.”

Introduction

There’s something about the song “How Great Is Our God” that silences our doubts and lifts our hearts. It’s not just a melody—it’s a declaration. A bold, beautiful reminder of who our God is.

“The splendor of a King, clothed in majesty…”

This isn’t a small God we sing to. He is majestic. He is mighty. And He is near.

So today, let’s take this song and step into the greatness of God—because how we see God shapes how we live.

Point 1: God’s Greatness Is Majestic

“Clothed in majesty, let all the earth rejoice…”

Psalm 104:1

“O Lord my God, you are very great, you are clothed with splendor and majesty.”

The greatness of God is seen in the beauty of creation—from galaxies to grains of sand.
It’s in the power of storms and the gentle whisper of a breeze. His greatness fills the heavens and still knows your name.

Let all the earth rejoice—not because life is always good, but because God always is.

Point 2: God’s Greatness Is Eternal

“Age to age He stands, and time is in His hands…”

Isaiah 46:9-10

“I am God, and there is no other… I make known the end from the beginning.”

God is not surprised by your situation. He’s not running late. He holds time like we hold a watch.
While we worry about today, He’s already at work in tomorrow.

The God who stood with Moses, walked with David, and raised Jesus from the dead—is the same God who stands with you now.

Point 3: God’s Greatness Is Personal

“The Godhead Three in One: Father, Spirit, Son…”

God is not distant. He is relational.
He is Father—loving, protecting, providing.
He is Son—walking in our shoes, dying for our sins.
He is Spirit—living inside us, comforting, convicting, guiding.

Colossians 1:15-17 says of Jesus:

“He is the image of the invisible God… all things were created through Him and for Him… and in Him all things hold together.”

God isn’t just great in theory—He’s great in your story.
And His greatness meets your weakness with grace.

Conclusion: Declare His Greatness

The chorus says:

“How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, and all will see
How great, how great is our God.”

Worship isn’t just about singing—it’s about seeing.
Seeing God for who He truly is, and then living a life that makes others see Him too.

When you declare, “How great is our God,” you’re reminding your heart.
You’re lifting your faith.
You’re showing the world that there is no one like our God.

Closing Prayer

Father, You are great and greatly to be praised. We lift our hearts in worship because You are worthy—not just for what You’ve done, but for who You are. Help us live lives that reflect Your majesty, walk in Your power, and rest in Your love. Let our lives sing louder than our songs, and may all who see us see how great is our God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
