To Honor Christmas Is to Honor Christianity

Luke 2:10-14

Theme Scripture: Luke 2:10-14– “And the angel said unto them, Be not afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all the people …”

Christmas is more than lights, gifts, or celebration. It is the moment God stepped into human history. Christianity is the story of a God who became man, and Christmas celebrates that miracle. The hymn “Hark! the herald angels sing, glory to the newborn King!” is not just a song—it is worship declaring the gospel.

Honoring Christmas Means Honoring the King

  • The angels’ “Hark” means “Listen!”
  • They announced a King—Christ the Lord.
  • He came through generations, born in a manger, wrapped in simple cloths, visited by shepherds.
  • Honoring Christmas is declaring Jesus as King, Lord, and Savior.

Honoring Christmas Means Honoring the Incarnation

  • “Veiled in flesh the Godhead see, hail th’ incarnate Deity.”
  • God didn’t send a messenger—He came Himself.
  • “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”
  • Christmas celebrates the miracle that God came to us when we could not reach Him.
  • He put on flesh to redeem us.
  • Honoring Christmas is honoring the heart of the gospel.

Honoring Christmas Means Honoring Jesus’ Mission

  • “Mild He lays His glory by, born that man no more may die.”
  • Jesus didn’t come to give us a holiday—He came to give us life.
  • Christmas begins the mission that leads to the cross and triumphs in the resurrection.
  • He was born to save, redeem, and break sin’s power.
  • The cradle points to the cross, and the cross points to His crown.

Honoring Christmas Means Honoring God’s Peace

  • The angels declared “Peace on earth.”
  • Real peace isn’t the absence of problems—it’s the presence of Christ.
  • When Christ is honored, peace follows, when ignored, chaos grows.
  • Honoring Christmas is inviting Christ to rule in your home, heart, decisions, and relationships.

Honoring Christmas Means Honoring the Call to Praise

  • “Hark! the herald angels sing…”
  • Angels sang then—we should sing now.
  • Christmas is announced faith, not silent faith.
  • To honor Christmas is to lift our voices, hearts, gratitude, and worship.

Conclusion

  • Honoring Christmas is honoring Christianity.
  • Christmas celebrates:

    • the King
    • the Incarnation
    • the mission of salvation
    • the peace Christ offers
    • the worship He deserves
  • Let your decorations point to devotion, your gifts to His grace, and your joy to Jesus.
  • To honor Christmas is to honor Christ—and to honor Christ is to honor your faith.

Closing Prayer Father, thank You for the gift of Jesus, the King who came to save us. Help us honor Christmas in a way that honors You—with worship, gratitude, and surrendered hearts. Let the message of the angels echo within us: “Glory to the newborn King.” In Jesus’ name, Amen.
