Salvation Has Come

Luke 19:9-10

Scripture: “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” - John 1:14

Introduction

John 1:14 is one of the most profound verses in Scripture, revealing the mystery of the Incarnation—God becoming human in the person of Jesus Christ. This truth is the foundation of our faith, showing us God’s love, His desire to be near us, and His perfect balance of grace and truth.

1. The Word Became Flesh

John begins his Gospel by describing Jesus as “the Word” (John 1:1), meaning He is eternal, divine, and the full expression of God. The astonishing reality of the Incarnation is that this eternal Word took on human nature. Jesus was not just God appearing as a man—He became fully human while remaining fully God.

This means that God is not distant or unreachable. He chose to step into our world, experiencing hunger, pain, sorrow, and joy. Because Jesus became flesh, He understands our struggles and can truly sympathize with our weaknesses (Hebrews 4:15).

2. He Made His Dwelling Among Us

The phrase “made his dwelling” literally means “tabernacled” among us. This is a reference to the Old Testament, where God’s presence was with His people in the tabernacle (Exodus 25:8). But now, through Jesus, God’s presence is not confined to a tent or a temple—He is with us in a personal and intimate way.

Through Christ, we no longer need a high priest to approach God on our behalf. He is Immanuel, “God with us” (Matthew 1:23). His presence is not temporary but everlasting.

3. We Have Seen His Glory

John testifies that through Jesus, we have seen God’s glory. This is not the radiant light of the Old Testament that filled the tabernacle, but the glory of God’s character—His love, mercy, power, and holiness revealed in Christ.

Jesus demonstrated God’s glory through His miracles, His teachings, His compassion, and ultimately through His death and resurrection. If we want to know what God is like, we need only to look at Jesus.

4. Full of Grace and Truth

Jesus came “full of grace and truth.” This balance is essential:

  • Grace is God’s unmerited love and forgiveness. Jesus did not come to condemn but to save (John 3:17). He offers salvation freely to all who believe in Him.
  • Truth is God’s holiness and righteousness. Jesus did not compromise on truth—He confronted sin and called people to repentance.

As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect both grace and truth in our lives. We must share God’s love without compromising His truth.

Conclusion: Embracing the Incarnation

John 1:14 is the heart of the Gospel—God became man, lived among us, revealed His glory, and offered us grace and truth. This truth should fill us with awe, gratitude, and a deeper desire to know and follow Jesus.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus to dwell among us. Help us to grasp the depth of Your love shown in the Incarnation. May we live in the fullness of Your grace and truth, reflecting Your glory to the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
