In Him We Live and Move and Have Our Being
Acts 17:28
Scripture: Acts 17:28 (NIV) “For in him we live and move and have our being. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’”
Introduction In Acts 17, Paul addresses the people of Athens, revealing the one true God as the Creator and Sustainer of all life. He declares, “For in him we live and move and have our being,” a profound truth that highlights our dependence on God, our purpose in Him, and His sustaining power.
1. The Source of Life
- “In Him We Live”: Life is a gift from God. Every breath and heartbeat are sustained by His power (Genesis 2:7). God’s active involvement in our lives ensures that life continues.
- Reflection: Do you recognize that your life is a gift from God? How does this impact your daily living?
2. The Movement of Our Lives
- “In Him We Move”: God directs our actions and decisions. Walking by the Spirit (Galatians 5:16) aligns us with His will and purpose.
- Reflection: Are you seeking God’s guidance in your decisions? How can you be more intentional in following His lead?
3. Our Identity and Purpose
- “In Him We Have Our Being”: Our identity is rooted in God. We are His creation, designed to glorify Him and reflect His image.
- Reflection: Where do you find your identity? Are you seeking purpose in God or in worldly achievements?
4. God’s Presence in Our Lives
- God is Near: Paul reminds the Athenians that God is not distant but intimately involved in our lives. His constant presence offers comfort and assurance.
- Reflection: Are you aware of God’s presence in your daily life? How can you invite Him into every moment?
5. Living in Light of This Truth
- Living with Purpose: Knowing that God is the source of life calls us to live intentionally and glorify Him in all we do.
- Worship in Everyday Life: Our work, relationships, and routines can all be acts of worship when aligned with God’s will.
- Reflection: How does this truth shape your daily life? Are you living intentionally for God?
Application: Living “In Him”
