The Power of Jesus’ Name

Acts 3:6

Scripture: Acts 3:6 (NIV)

“Then Peter said, ‘Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.’”

Introduction

This verse captures a powerful moment in the early church. Peter and John encounter a lame beggar at the temple gate, expecting to receive money. Instead, Peter offers him something far greater—healing through the name of Jesus. This passage reminds us that the power of Christ is far greater than anything the world can offer.

1. The World Seeks Temporary Solutions

  • The lame man was begging for money, thinking it would solve his problems.
  • Many people today look to wealth, success, or human resources to fix their struggles.
  • But material things can only provide temporary relief, they cannot address the deeper needs of the soul.

Reflection: What are we seeking to satisfy our needs? Are we looking for worldly solutions instead of trusting in God?

2. The Power of Jesus’ Name

  • Peter had no silver or gold, but he had something far more powerful—faith in Jesus Christ.
  • He declared healing in Jesus’ name, showing that true power and transformation come from God, not human resources.
  • The name of Jesus represents His authority, presence, and power (Philippians 2:9-11).

Reflection: Do we recognize the power available to us through faith in Jesus? Do we call upon His name in our struggles?

3. Faith in Action Leads to Miracles

  • Peter did not just speak words, he acted in faith by commanding the man to walk.
  • The man was immediately healed and began walking, jumping, and praising God (Acts 3:7-8).
  • When we step out in faith, God moves in ways beyond what we can imagine.

Reflection: Are we willing to act in faith, trusting God to do what seems impossible?

Application: How to Live in the Power of Jesus’ Name

  1. Trust in Jesus, Not Material Things - Seek Him first rather than relying on worldly resources.
  2. Pray Boldly in His Name - Approach God with confidence, believing in His power to heal and restore.
  3. Step Out in Faith - Be willing to act when God calls you to minister to others.
  4. Give Glory to God - Like the healed man, let our lives be a testimony of God’s power and goodness.

Conclusion

Peter’s words remind us that the greatest treasure we have is not silver or gold, but the power of Jesus Christ. His name brings healing, restoration, and salvation. Let us live with bold faith, trusting in His power and sharing His love with those in need.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the power of Jesus’ name. Help us to trust in You rather than in material things. Strengthen our faith so that we may boldly proclaim Your name and act in obedience to Your call. May our lives reflect Your glory and bring healing to those around us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
