Let Everything That Has Breath Praise the Lord

Psalm 150:6

Text: “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!” — Psalm 150:6 (NIV)

Introduction

The book of Psalms ends with a powerful call to worship. Psalm 150 is a grand finale of praise, urging all creation to glorify God. The last verse, Psalm 150:6, makes it clear—if you have breath, you are called to praise the Lord.

1. Praise is Our Purpose

The psalmist does not limit praise to a specific group of people, instead, he declares that everything with breath should worship God. Praise is not optional—it is what we were created for.

Application:

Every breath we take is a reminder that we are alive because of God’s grace. If we have breath, we have a reason to worship. Our praise should not depend on our circumstances but on who God is.

2. Praise is for Everyone

Psalm 150 does not restrict praise to priests, musicians, or those in the temple. It calls for universal worship from all of God’s creation.

Application:

Sometimes, we think worship is only for church services, but praise should be a daily part of our lives. Whether in joy or in trials, we can praise God for His faithfulness.

3. Praise is a Command

The verse ends with an emphatic command: “Praise the Lord!” This is not a suggestion but a declaration of what we should do.

Application:

Are we fulfilling our calling to praise God? We can praise Him through singing, prayer, acts of kindness, and how we live our lives. Our praise should be continuous, reflecting our gratitude to God.

Conclusion

Psalm 150:6 is a simple yet powerful reminder that every living being is called to praise the Lord. As long as we have breath, let us use it to glorify the One who gives us life.

Closing Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the breath of life. May we use every moment to give You praise. Teach us to worship You in all circumstances and to live in a way that glorifies Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
