Jesus: King of Kings and Lord of Lords
Revelation 19:16
Scripture: Revelation 19:16 - “On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”
Introduction
Throughout history, many have claimed power, authority, and dominion over the earth. Kings and rulers have come and gone, but only one King reigns eternally—Jesus Christ. Revelation 19:16 declares that He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, revealing His supreme authority over all creation.
As we explore this passage, we will focus on three key aspects of Christ’s kingship:
- The Authority of Jesus
- The Victory of Jesus
- The Reign of Jesus
1. The Authority of Jesus
“On His robe and on His thigh He has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.”
- The title “King of Kings and Lord of Lords” means that Jesus is above all earthly rulers.
- In the first coming, Jesus came as a humble servant, but in His second coming, He will return as a victorious King.
- Philippians 2:9-11 declares that every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord.
- All power and authority belong to Him:
- Over the nations (Psalm 2:8-9)
- Over creation (Colossians 1:16)
- Over the church (Ephesians 1:22)
- Over death and hell (Revelation 1:18)
Jesus is not just one ruler among many—He is the ultimate and final authority!
2. The Victory of Jesus
- Revelation 19 describes Jesus returning as a warrior King, riding on a white horse, leading the armies of heaven.
- His robe is dipped in blood, signifying His sacrifice and victory over sin and Satan (Revelation 19:13).
- The battle is already won—Christ defeated the enemy at the cross (Colossians 2:15).
- While earthly kings rise and fall, Jesus’ victory is eternal.
- No power in heaven, on earth, or under the earth can stand against Him (Romans 8:37-39).
As believers, we are not fighting for victory—we are fighting from victory!
3. The Reign of Jesus
- Christ’s kingdom is not temporary like earthly kingdoms. It is an everlasting kingdom (Daniel 7:14).
- What does His reign mean for us?
- We are His subjects - We must submit to His Lordship (Luke 6:46).
- We are His ambassadors - We represent His kingdom on earth (2 Corinthians 5:20).
- We will reign with Him - Those who are faithful will reign with Christ in His kingdom (Revelation 20:6).
- In the end, all rebellion against Christ will be crushed, and He will reign forever (1 Corinthians 15:24-25).
Conclusion
Revelation 19:16 is a powerful declaration that Jesus is the undisputed King. His authority, victory, and reign are absolute.
- ✔ Are you submitting to His authority today?
- ✔ Are you living in the victory He has already won?
- ✔ Are you prepared for His return as the reigning King?
Let us worship, serve, and trust in Jesus—the King of Kings and Lord of Lords—who reigns forever!
