The Power of the Resurrection

Matthew 28:6

Scripture: Matthew 28:6 - “He is not here, He has risen, just as He said. Come and see the place where He lay.”

Introduction

Easter Sunday is the most glorious day in the Christian faith. It is the day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the event that changed history forever. On Good Friday, Jesus died on the cross for our sins, but on the third day, He rose in victory over sin, death, and the grave.

The resurrection is not just a historical event—it is the foundation of our faith. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:17, “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile, you are still in your sins.” But praise God, Jesus is alive! Today, we will explore three key truths about the resurrection and what it means for us today.

1. The Resurrection Proves That Jesus Is Who He Said He Was

Matthew 28:6 - “He is not here, He has risen, just as He said.”

Throughout His ministry, Jesus foretold His death and resurrection. Matthew 16:21 says, “From that time on Jesus began to explain to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things…and that He must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.”

The resurrection is the ultimate proof that Jesus is:

  • ✔ The Son of God (Romans 1:4)
  • ✔ The Savior of the world (John 14:6)
  • ✔ The fulfillment of God’s promises (Luke 24:44-46)

If Jesus had remained in the tomb, His words would have been meaningless. But because He rose again, we can trust everything He said—about salvation, eternal life, and His coming kingdom!

2. The Resurrection Brings Victory Over Sin and Death

1 Corinthians 15:55-57 - “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? …But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

The resurrection is the final victory over sin and death. Before Christ, sin held humanity in bondage, and death was the ultimate enemy. But when Jesus rose from the grave:

  • ✔ Sin was defeated - His death paid the price for our sins (2 Corinthians 5:21).
  • ✔ Death lost its power - Because He lives, we will also live (John 11:25).
  • ✔ Satan was conquered - The enemy has no hold on those in Christ (Colossians 2:15).

Because of the resurrection, we do not have to live in fear of sin or death. We have been set free!

3. The Resurrection Gives Us New Life and Hope

Romans 6:4 - “Just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

Easter is not just about what happened to Jesus—it’s about what happens to us when we believe in Him!

  • ✔ We are made new - Through faith in Christ, we are given a fresh start (2 Corinthians 5:17).
  • ✔ We have the promise of eternal life - Jesus’ resurrection guarantees our own resurrection (John 14:19).
  • ✔ We have resurrection power - The same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us (Romans 8:11).

The resurrection is not just an event in history—it is a present reality that transforms our lives. No matter what trials we face, we have hope because Jesus is alive!

How Should We Respond to the Resurrection?

  1. Believe in Jesus - Salvation comes through faith in the risen Christ (Romans 10:9).
  2. Live in victory - We are no longer slaves to sin, we are children of God! (Galatians 2:20).
  3. Share the good news - Just like the women at the tomb, we must tell others that Jesus is alive! (Matthew 28:7).

Conclusion: Jesus Is Alive!

Easter is a celebration of life, victory, and hope. The resurrection changes everything—it proves who Jesus is, defeats sin and death, and gives us new life.

Let us live every day in the power of the resurrection, boldly proclaiming:

“He is risen! He is risen indeed!”

Closing Prayer:

“Heavenly Father, we thank You for the victory of the resurrection. Because Jesus lives, we have hope, salvation, and eternal life. Help us to live in the power of His resurrection and share the good news with the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
