The Full Armor of God
Ephesians 6:11
Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-18
“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” - Ephesians 6:11 (NIV)
Introduction
As believers, we are engaged in a spiritual battle. The enemy is constantly attacking through temptation, discouragement, and deception. But God has not left us defenseless—He has given us the full armor of God to stand firm and overcome.
Today, we will explore:
- Why We Need the Armor
- The Six Pieces of God’s Armor
- How to Put on the Armor Daily
1. Why We Need the Armor
Paul reminds us in Ephesians 6:12 that our battle is not against people but against spiritual forces of evil.
- The devil uses lies, fear, temptation, and division to weaken us.
- If we fight in our own strength, we will fail.
- But with God’s armor, we can stand firm and walk in victory.
Application:
- Recognize that spiritual battles are real.
- Rely on God’s strength, not your own (Ephesians 6:10).
2. The Six Pieces of God’s Armor
Paul describes six pieces of armor that protect us and help us fight.
- The Belt of Truth (Ephesians 6:14a)
- A Roman soldier’s belt held everything together.
- Truth is the foundation of our faith—it keeps us secure.
- Satan attacks with lies, but we fight back with God’s truth (John 8:32).
Application: Stay rooted in God’s Word and reject the enemy’s lies.
- The Breastplate of Righteousness (Ephesians 6:14b)
- A breastplate protects the heart.
- Righteousness is not our own—it comes from Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:21).
- The enemy accuses us of past sins, but Christ makes us righteous.
Application: Live a life of integrity and obedience to God.
- The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace (Ephesians 6:15)
- Soldiers wore strong sandals to stand firm in battle.
- The Gospel of peace keeps us steady, even in trials.
- Peace comes from knowing we are saved and secure in Christ.
Application: Walk daily in God’s peace and be ready to share the Gospel.
- The Shield of Faith (Ephesians 6:16)
- Roman shields protected soldiers from fiery arrows.
- The enemy sends doubts, fears, and temptations to weaken us.
- Faith blocks every attack—when we trust God, the devil’s schemes fail.
Application: Strengthen your faith through prayer and God’s promises.
- The Helmet of Salvation (Ephesians 6:17a)
- A helmet protects the mind.
- The enemy attacks with doubt, discouragement, and fear.
- Salvation secures our identity in Christ and guards our thoughts.
Application: Renew your mind daily with God’s truth (Romans 12:2).
- The Sword of the Spirit - The Word of God (Ephesians 6:17b)
- The only offensive weapon in the armor.
- Jesus defeated Satan with Scripture (Matthew 4:1-11).
- God’s Word is powerful against every attack.
Application: Memorize and declare Scripture when facing battles.
3. How to Put on the Armor Daily
Paul tells us to put on the full armor of God every day. How?
- Pray for God’s strength (Ephesians 6:18).
- Read and meditate on God’s Word daily.
- Walk in faith and obedience to Christ.
- Guard your mind against the enemy’s lies.
- Surround yourself with other believers for encouragement.
Conclusion
God has given us everything we need to stand firm against the enemy.
- The Belt of Truth - Stand on God’s Word.
- The Breastplate of Righteousness - Live in holiness.
- The Shoes of Peace - Walk in confidence.
- The Shield of Faith - Trust in God’s promises.
