Peace : Fruit Of The Spirit

Galatians 5:22-23

Text: Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

Introduction

Let’s be honest—peace is in short supply these days.
The world offers us chaos with a side of anxiety. People are stressed, news is a mess, and even traffic lights seem to conspire against our serenity.

But the peace that the Holy Spirit gives? It’s different. It’s deeper. It’s steady in storms.
It doesn’t depend on circumstances—it depends on Christ.

Point 1: Peace Is a Gift from the Spirit, Not a Product of Your Situation

Jesus said in John 14:27:

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Notice He says my peace. Not temporary, not fragile—His peace.
The kind that kept Him calm in the middle of a storm, while His disciples were panicking in the boat.

If Jesus can nap through a storm, maybe we can stop pacing during ours.

Point 2: Peace Is Grown When We Trust God’s Presence Over Our Problems

Isaiah 26:3 says:

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”

Peace isn’t found by avoiding problems—it’s found by focusing on the One who’s bigger than the problem.
When our minds are set on God instead of our worries, peace begins to take root.

Think of Peter walking on water. As long as his eyes were on Jesus, he walked in peace.
The moment he focused on the waves—he sank in fear.
Sound familiar?

Point 3: Peace Is Not Passive—It’s a Powerful Witness

In a world full of panic, peace is powerful.
Philippians 4:6-7 says:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation… present your requests to God.
And the peace of God… will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

That word guard is a military term. God’s peace isn’t weak.
It’s like a soldier, standing watch over your heart, saying, “Fear, you don’t belong here.”

When people see you walking through chaos calmly, they’ll wonder what’s guarding your heart.
That’s your chance to say, “It’s not me—it’s Jesus.”

Conclusion

The fruit of peace doesn’t mean your life is storm-free. It means you’ve got an anchor.
When the Holy Spirit is at work in you, peace begins to grow—not from the outside in, but from the inside out.

So today, stop trying to manufacture peace.
Invite the Holy Spirit to produce it in you.
Fix your eyes on Jesus, and let His peace stand guard.

Closing Prayer

Lord,
Thank You for being the God of peace in a world of unrest.
When everything around us is shaking, help us stand steady in You.
Holy Spirit, plant and grow Your peace deep within us.
Guard our hearts and our minds in Christ.
Let us be carriers of peace to a world that desperately needs it.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
