Fix Your Focus: Looking to Jesus
Hebrews 12:2
Scripture:
Hebrews 12:2 (NIV)
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith.”
Introduction
Life will give you problems — no one’s exempt.
Some problems are small, others feel overwhelming.
But here’s the truth: what you focus on will shape your faith.
If you keep staring at the problem, you’ll get discouraged.
But if you fix your eyes on God, you’ll find peace, strength, and victory.
Today, let’s learn how to shift our focus from the size of the problem to the size of our God.
Point 1: What You Focus On Grows
Have you noticed the more you think about a problem, the bigger it seems?
Worry multiplies when we magnify the issue.
Psalm 34:3 (KJV)
“O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.”
🔹 Magnify God — not your problem.
🔹 When you focus on His power, promises, and presence,
your fear shrinks and your faith grows.
Point 2: God is Bigger Than Any Problem
- David faced Goliath. Everyone else saw a giant, David saw a defeated enemy because he was focused on God.
- Daniel faced the lion’s den. He didn’t focus on the lions — he trusted the Lion of Judah.
- The disciples faced a storm. They panicked. Jesus slept — because even the wind and waves obey Him.
Jeremiah 32:27 (NIV)
“I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?”
📌 Nothing you face today is too hard for God.
When your eyes are on Him, you realize:
He is greater than your greatest fear.
Point 3: Keep Your Eyes on Jesus in Every Situation
Problems try to distract you — but faith is about focus.
Peter walked on water when his eyes were on Jesus — but started sinking when he looked at the wind and waves.
Matthew 14:30 (NIV)
“But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’”
✅ Keep looking up.
✅ Keep praying.
✅ Keep trusting.
Faith isn’t denying the problem — it’s focusing on the One who’s bigger than the problem.
Conclusion
Today, whatever you’re facing:
- Don’t focus on the size of the storm — focus on the One who calms it.
- Don’t focus on the size of the mountain — focus on the One who moves it.
🔄 Shift your focus.
👀 Look to Jesus.
👑 He’s still on the throne.
🛤 He’s still making a way.
Closing Prayer
Lord, help us to lift our eyes above the problems and fix them on You. Teach us to trust Your power, Your promises, and Your presence. Remind us daily that You are greater than anything we face. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
