When Christ Shows Up: A Vision of Glory That Changes Everything

Daniel 10:5–7

Scripture: Daniel 10:5–7 (NIV)

“I looked up and there before me was a man dressed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist. His body was like topaz, his face like lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and his voice like the sound of a multitude. I, Daniel, was the only one who saw the vision, the men with me did not see it, but such terror overwhelmed them that they fled and hid themselves. So I was left alone, gazing at this great vision, I had no strength left, my face turned deathly pale and I was helpless.”

Introduction: What Happens When Christ Appears

There are moments in Scripture where time seems to stop, the veil between heaven and earth is pulled back, and someone has a direct encounter with the divine. Daniel 10 is one of those moments.

Daniel wasn’t just seeing a heavenly being—he was seeing Christ in His pre-incarnate glory.

Before Jesus came wrapped in flesh and laid in a manger, He existed eternally as the glorious Son of God—and Daniel got a glimpse of Him.

Today, let’s explore this passage to answer: What happens when Christ shows up?

1. Christ Appears in Glory (Daniel 10:5–6)

Daniel sees:

  • A man clothed in linen – representing purity and priesthood.
  • A belt of gold – symbolizing kingship and majesty.
  • A body like topaz, face like lightning, eyes like fire – intense, holy, radiant.
  • Arms and legs like bronze, voice like many waters – strength, power, authority.

This matches Revelation 1:13–15, where John sees Jesus in glory, using nearly identical language.

🕊️ This is not just an angel—this is a theophany, a Christophany: The pre-incarnate Christ revealing Himself in radiant, terrifying splendor.

🔑 Key Point: Christ is not just meek and mild—He is also mighty and majestic.

He is not just the Lamb—He is the Lion. He is not just your Savior—He is the Lord of glory.

2. His Presence Separates the Casual from the Called (Daniel 10:7)

“I, Daniel, was the only one who saw the vision…”

The others were there—but they didn’t see what Daniel saw.

  • They felt something—terror—but didn’t understand it.
  • They fled while Daniel stayed.

This is a picture of spiritual depth. Not everyone around you will see what you see when God reveals Himself. God doesn’t give casual revelation to casual seekers.

Daniel had been in prayer, fasting, mourning, seeking—and he alone was entrusted with the vision.

🧎 Private devotion leads to personal revelation.

3. His Presence Overwhelms Human Strength (Daniel 10:8)

“I had no strength left… I was helpless.”

Daniel didn’t jump up and shout. He didn’t clap or dance. He collapsed.

Because when you encounter the real, glorious Christ:

  • Pride melts.
  • Self-reliance shatters.
  • You become fully aware of your weakness—and His greatness.

Isaiah fell. Ezekiel fell. John fell. Daniel fell. When Christ truly shows up, flesh has no room to boast.

🙌 Sometimes God has to empty you so He can fill you.

Conclusion: Why This Matters Today

This vision wasn’t just for Daniel—it’s for us today:

  • To remind us who Jesus truly is.
  • To shake us out of spiritual apathy.
  • To call us into deeper reverence, deeper worship, and deeper awe.

So many people want Jesus as a friend, healer, or helper—but we also must see Him as King of Glory.

🕯️ When Christ shows up, everything changes. Will you be one who flees in fear—or stays to see His face?

Today’s Prayer

Jesus, reveal Yourself to me—not just as I imagine You, but as You truly are. Show me Your holiness, Your glory, and Your greatness. Like Daniel, may I fall in awe before You and rise with strength that only comes from You. Open my eyes to see You clearly. In Your mighty name I pray. Amen.

📖 Final Word: Christ doesn’t just come to comfort you—He comes to transform you. Seek Him, and you will see Him. And when you do, you’ll never be the same.
