Seeking God Leads to Success

2 Chronicles 26:5

“He sought God during the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God. As long as he sought the Lord, God gave him success.”

Introduction

Success is something many people strive for in life. Whether it’s success in their careers, relationships, or personal goals, the desire to prosper is universal. However, true and lasting success comes from seeking God. In 2 Chronicles 26:5, we read about King Uzziah, who experienced success because he sought God. His story reminds us that when we put God first, He guides us toward both spiritual and earthly success.

I. The Importance of Seeking God

“He sought God during the days of Zechariah…”

King Uzziah’s success began with his decision to seek God. To “seek God” means to pursue a relationship with Him through prayer, reading His Word, and obeying His commands. It’s about making God the center of our lives.

  • Biblical Example: In Matthew 6:33, Jesus teaches, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” This principle applies to every area of life—when we seek God, everything else falls into place.
  • Application: Are you seeking God daily? True success isn’t measured by wealth or status but by our closeness to God. Make time to seek Him in prayer and Scripture, trusting that He will guide your steps.

II. The Role of Godly Instruction

“Who instructed him in the fear of God…”

Uzziah was blessed with the guidance of Zechariah, a godly mentor who taught him to fear and respect the Lord. Godly instruction helps us grow in wisdom and stay on the right path.

  • Biblical Example: Proverbs 1:7 states, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Respecting God leads to wise decisions that bring success.
  • Application: Seek out godly mentors who can help you grow spiritually. Surround yourself with people who encourage your faith and provide wise counsel. Be open to correction and instruction, knowing that it leads to growth.

    III. God’s Promise of Success

“As long as he sought the Lord, God gave him success.”

The key to Uzziah’s success was his consistent pursuit of God. Notice that the verse says, “as long as” he sought the Lord. His success wasn’t a one-time event—it was ongoing as long as he remained faithful. Unfortunately, later in life, Uzziah became prideful and turned away from God, which led to his downfall (2 Chronicles 26:16). His story is a reminder that true success is found in daily dependence on God.

  • Biblical Example: Psalm 1:1-3 describes the person who delights in God’s law as being like a tree planted by streams of water—always fruitful and prosperous.
  • Application: Success that lasts comes from walking with God every day. Trust Him with your goals and decisions, and He will lead you to success that aligns with His purpose for your life.

** Conclusion: Success Through Seeking God

2 Chronicles 26:5 teaches us that success is directly connected to seeking God. When we prioritize our relationship with Him, follow godly instruction, and remain faithful, He blesses us with success that goes beyond worldly achievements. However, we must remember that true success isn’t just about wealth or fame—it’s about living a life that honors God and fulfills His purpose.

Let us commit to seeking God daily, trusting that as we do, He will lead us to success in every area of our lives.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding us that true success comes from seeking You. Help us to prioritize our relationship with You above all else. Surround us with godly mentors who can guide us in wisdom and truth. Keep us humble and faithful, so we may experience the blessings that come from walking with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
