O.W.E: Obey, Worship, Expect

Proverbs 3:5-6

“What Do You O.W.E God?”
(Obey, Worship, Expect)

Text: Proverbs 3:5-6 — “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Introduction

Every one of us owes God something — not in the sense of debt, but as a response to His goodness, mercy, and love.
And what we truly O.W.E Him is:

  • Obey
  • Worship
  • Expect

This is the rhythm of a faithful, fruitful life.

1. O — OBEY

Key Verse: John 14:15 — “If you love me, keep my commands.”

What is Obedience?
Obedience is not just hearing God’s word — it’s doing what He says. It’s following His direction, even when it’s hard, unpopular, or unclear.

Biblical Example:

  • Noah built the ark before he ever saw rain.
  • Abraham left his homeland, not knowing where he was going.
  • Esther risked her life to speak up for her people.

Lesson:
Obedience is proof of trust. When we obey God, we show that we believe He knows what’s best.

Question:
Is there something God is asking you to obey today?

2. W — WORSHIP

Key Verse: Psalm 29:2 — “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name, worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.”

What is Worship?
Worship is more than a song — it’s a lifestyle. It’s giving God the honor, glory, and reverence He deserves, not only with our lips but with our hearts and actions.

Biblical Example:

  • David danced before the Lord with all his might.
  • Mary of Bethany poured expensive perfume on Jesus’ feet and wiped them with her hair.
  • The Palm Sunday crowd shouted “Hosanna!” and laid down their cloaks.

Lesson:
Worship shifts our focus from our problems to God’s greatness. It refreshes our spirit and invites God’s presence.

Question:
Are you offering God wholehearted, authentic worship?

3. E — EXPECT

Key Verse: Psalm 5:3 — “In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice, in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.”

What Does It Mean to Expect?
Expectation is faith in action — believing that God will do what He says, even before we see it.

Biblical Example:

  • The woman with the issue of blood expected healing when she touched Jesus’ garment.
  • The centurion expected Jesus to heal his servant with just a word.
  • Hannah expected God to give her a son after years of barrenness.

Lesson:
Expectation positions us to receive. It says, “I don’t know how or when, but I believe God is able.”

Question:
What are you expecting God to do in your life?

Conclusion

You O.W.E God:

  • Obey Him when it’s easy and when it’s hard.
  • Worship Him in every season, good and bad.
  • Expect great things because He is faithful and able.

When we live this way, we experience God’s power, peace, and promises like never before.

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for the privilege of walking with You. Help us to obey You without hesitation, to worship You with all we are, and to expect great things from Your hand. Build in us hearts that trust, lips that praise, and faith that believes.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
