Isaiah 6:3 1 Corinthians 10:31
Text: Isaiah 6:3 (NIV) — “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty, the whole earth is full of his glory.”
Supporting Text: 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV) — “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
Introduction:
God’s glory is one of the most profound concepts in Scripture. It represents His infinite beauty, holiness, and majesty. When we speak of God’s glory, we are referring to the visible and invisible manifestation of His divine attributes. Understanding and living for God’s glory is the highest calling for every believer.
1. What Is the Glory of God?
- Definition: God’s glory is the sum total of His attributes—His holiness, power, love, righteousness, and majesty. It is the essence of His being, the radiance of His character.
- Manifestations:
- In Creation: “The heavens declare the glory of God” (Psalm 19:1). The beauty and complexity of the natural world reflect God's creative power and wisdom.
- In Jesus Christ: “The Word became flesh… and we have seen his glory” (John 1:14). Jesus perfectly embodied God's glory, revealing His love, compassion, and power.
- In Believers: We are called to reflect God’s glory through our lives (2 Corinthians 3:18). As we are transformed by the Holy Spirit, we become more like Christ, reflecting His glory to the world.
God’s glory is both seen in creation and experienced personally through Jesus Christ.
Application: Are you aware of God’s glory around you and in your life? Do you take time to appreciate the beauty of His creation and the wonder of His love?
2. The Purpose of Our Lives: Living for God’s Glory
- Created for His Glory: “Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory” (Isaiah 43:7). We were created to bring honor and praise to God, reflecting His image and fulfilling His purposes.
- Living for God’s Glory: Paul instructs in 1 Corinthians 10:31 that even mundane activities should glorify God. Every aspect of our lives, from our work to our relationships, should be lived with the intention of honoring Him.
- Example of Jesus: Jesus lived entirely for the glory of the Father (John 17:4). His life was a perfect example of selfless devotion and obedience to God's will.
Our lives are most meaningful when we live for the glory of God, not our own success or fame.
Application: In what areas of your life can you better reflect God’s glory—work, relationships, or character? How can you make your life a testament to God's goodness and grace?
3. How to Glorify God
A. Worship:
- True worship glorifies God by acknowledging His worth and holiness. It is an expression of our love, adoration, and reverence for Him.
- “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name, worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness” (Psalm 29:2).
Application: Worship should be more than just songs on Sunday, it should be a lifestyle of acknowledging God's presence and expressing our gratitude for His love and grace.
B. Obedience:
- “If you love me, keep my commands” (John 14:15). Obedience is not just about following rules but about demonstrating our love for God through our actions.
- Our obedience is a testimony to God’s greatness and authority. It shows the world that we value His Word and His will above our own.
Application: Are there areas of disobedience in your life hindering God’s glory? Are there habits, attitudes, or behaviors that need to be surrendered to God's control?
C. Bearing Fruit:
- “This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples” (John 15:8). Bearing spiritual fruit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—reflects God’s transforming work in our lives.
- These qualities are not produced by our own efforts but are the result of abiding in Christ and allowing the Holy Spirit to work through us.
Application: How can you bear more spiritual fruit in your daily interactions? How can you demonstrate God's love and character to those around you?
D. Witnessing:
- When we share the gospel, we proclaim the glory of God’s grace and His saving power through Jesus Christ. We invite others to experience the same transformation and hope that we have found.
- “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).
Application: Who in your life needs to see God’s glory through your words and actions? How can you be a witness to God's love and truth in your sphere of influence?
4. The Reward of Living for God’s Glory
- Eternal Glory: “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all” (2 Corinthians 4:17). When we live for God's glory now, we are investing in eternity.
- When we live for God’s glory on earth, we are promised eternal joy and glory with Him in heaven. This is the ultimate reward for those who faithfully serve Him.
God’s glory not only transforms us now but prepares us for an eternity in His presence.
Conclusion:
The glory of God is the ultimate purpose of creation and our lives. We are called to worship Him, obey Him, bear fruit, and be a light to the world. When we live for God’s glory, we experience true joy, fulfillment, and purpose.
Key Lessons:
- Recognize God’s Glory: Be mindful of His greatness and beauty in creation, His Word, and the person of Jesus Christ.
- Reflect God’s Glory: Live a life that honors and exalts Him, allowing the Holy Spirit to transform you into His image.
- Rejoice in God’s Glory: Look forward to the eternal glory that awaits us in His presence.
Closing Verse: “To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.” (Romans 11:36)
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing Your glory to us through creation, Your Word, and Your Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to live lives that glorify You in all we do. Transform us by Your presence and use us as vessels of Your glory to a world in need. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
