Glorifying God in Everything

1 Corinthians 10:31

Scripture:

“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” — 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV)

Introduction

Life is full of choices—big and small. Sometimes, we separate our lives into “spiritual” and “ordinary” categories, thinking that only prayer, worship, and ministry matter to God. But in 1 Corinthians 10:31, Paul reminds us that everything we do, even something as simple as eating or drinking, should be done for God’s glory. This verse challenges us to live with a purpose beyond ourselves: to honor God in all aspects of life.

Today, we will explore three key lessons from this verse:

  1. Everything We Do Matters to God
  2. Our Actions Should Reflect God’s Glory
  3. Living for God’s Glory Requires Intentionality

1. Everything We Do Matters to God

Paul wrote this verse in the context of Christian liberty, addressing whether believers should eat food sacrificed to idols (1 Corinthians 10:23-30). His conclusion is simple: whatever we do, it should be done in a way that honors God.

This means that:

  • Worship is not just singing in church—it’s also how we work, how we speak, and how we treat others.
  • Serving God is not just preaching—it’s also being kind to a stranger, working with integrity, and loving our families well.
  • Holiness is not just avoiding sin—it’s actively seeking to reflect Christ in our everyday lives.

2. Our Actions Should Reflect God’s Glory

To glorify God means to make Him known, to reflect His character, and to point others to Him. This should shape:

  • Our Words - Do our conversations build others up or tear them down? (Ephesians 4:29)
  • Our Work - Do we work with excellence as if serving God, not just people? (Colossians 3:23)
  • Our Relationships - Do we love, forgive, and serve others as Christ does? (John 13:34)
  • Our Choices - Do our decisions reflect faith, integrity, and obedience to God?

When people look at our lives, they should see God’s goodness, grace, and truth.

3. Living for God’s Glory Requires Intentionality

Glorifying God doesn’t happen by accident—it requires a daily choice. Here’s how we can cultivate a lifestyle that honors Him:

  1. Start with Prayer - Begin each day asking, “Lord, help me live in a way that glorifies You today.”
  2. Seek God’s Will - In every decision, ask, “Does this honor God?”
  3. Be a Light - Live in such a way that others see Christ in you (Matthew 5:16).
  4. Give Thanks - A heart of gratitude acknowledges God’s goodness in all things (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

Conclusion

Paul’s message is clear: everything we do should point to God’s glory. Whether we’re at work, home, school, or church, our lives should reflect His love, wisdom, and truth. Let us live with the purpose of glorifying God in all things!

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for calling us to live for Your glory. Help us to see every moment of our lives as an opportunity to honor You. May our words, actions, and choices reflect Your goodness. Teach us to live with purpose and to shine Your light in the world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
