Anchored in Hope
Romans 15:13
Key Text:
“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” - Romans 15:13
Introduction
Hope is one of the greatest gifts God has given us. It is the confident expectation that God will fulfill His promises. In a world filled with uncertainty, pain, and struggles, hope anchors our souls and keeps us moving forward. But hope is not just wishful thinking—it is a firm trust in God’s faithfulness.
1. God is the Source of Our Hope
Paul calls God the “God of hope” (Romans 15:13). This means that true hope is not found in our circumstances, wealth, or human strength, but in God alone.
- Psalm 62:5 - “My soul, wait thou only upon God, for my expectation is from him.”
- Lamentations 3:24 - “The Lord is my portion, saith my soul, therefore will I hope in him.”
No matter what we face, God remains constant, and His promises never fail.
2. Hope Gives Strength in Difficult Times
Life’s trials can make us feel discouraged, but hope gives us strength to endure.
- Isaiah 40:31 - “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint.”
- 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 - Paul reminds us that our present troubles are temporary compared to the eternal glory that awaits us.
Hope does not deny reality—it acknowledges the struggles while trusting in God’s greater plan.
3. Jesus Christ is Our Living Hope
Our greatest hope is found in Jesus Christ, who conquered sin and death. Because He lives, we have hope for today and for eternity.
- 1 Peter 1:3 - “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
- Colossians 1:27 - “Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
No matter how dark life gets, Jesus is our unshakable hope.
4. Hope is Meant to Be Shared
As believers, we are called to share the hope we have with others. The world is filled with people who are hurting, lost, and in need of encouragement.
- 1 Peter 3:15 - “Be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you.”
- Hebrews 10:23-24 - “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering, (for he is faithful that promised.) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works.”
When we live with hope, we become a light to those around us.
Conclusion
Hope is not just a feeling—it is a confident trust in God’s promises. No matter what we go through, we can rest in the assurance that God is in control. He is our source of hope, our strength in trials, and our promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ.
Let us hold onto hope, live in faith, and share the good news with those around us.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for being the God of hope. In every trial, help us to trust in You and stand firm in Your promises. Fill our hearts with joy and peace as we put our faith in You. May we be a light of hope to those around us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
