You’re Not a Failure Because You Try and Fail

Ecclesiastes 11:4

Scripture References

  • Ecclesiastes 11:4 — “Whoever watches the wind will not plant…”
  • Proverbs 24:16 — “Though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again.”
  • Matthew 25:24–26 — The servant who buried his talent.

Introduction God doesn’t call us to perfection—He calls us to faith and obedience. Many believers hesitate because they fear failure. Dreams stay buried, assignments untouched, and opportunities ignored. But true failure is not falling short, true failure is refusing to take the step of faith.

Failure Isn’t Falling — It’s Quitting Before You Start

  • “The righteous fall seven times but rise again.” God expects stumbles, but He also expects us to get up.
  • A baby isn’t a failure for falling, the falls prove they’re learning.
  • Every attempt, even unsuccessful ones, moves you closer to God’s purpose.
  • Thomas Edison famously said he didn’t fail—he simply found thousands of ways that didn’t work. Trying is part of the journey.

The Danger of Failing to Try

  • In Matthew 25, the servant buried his talent—not because he messed up, but because he never tried.
  • His issue wasn’t bad investment, it was fear-driven inactivity.
  • It is better to step out and sink like Peter than stay in the boat and never experience the miracle.
  • God is not disappointed by imperfect effort—only by unwilling hearts.

God Honors Effort, Not Excuses

  • Ecclesiastes 11:4 says if we wait for perfect conditions, we’ll never plant and never reap.
  • There will never be a “perfect” moment to pursue your calling.
  • God doesn’t require guaranteed success—He requires trust.
  • Obedience is success, even when the results look messy.

Lessons From People Who Failed Forward

  • Moses made mistakes, but still led a nation.
  • David fell into sin, yet God called him a man after His heart.
  • Peter denied Jesus, then preached and 3,000 were saved. Each one stumbled, but each one got back up—and God used them powerfully.

Conclusion You are not a failure because something didn’t work. You fail only when you bury your gift, hide your calling, and refuse to try. God looks at your willingness, not your perfection. Shake off the fear of failure and declare, “Lord, I will try again!”

Closing Prayer Heavenly Father, thank You that Your grace covers our mistakes and Your mercy lifts us when we fall. Give us courage to step out in faith, even when we feel weak. Remind us that true failure is refusing to try. Help us rise again, walk in obedience, and trust You with the outcome. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
